Caitlyn in League Classic: Legacy Kit and Changes

Classic Caitlyn arrived in Patch 26.20 with a kit where trap and net stand on their own instead of feeding Headshot. Here is the legacy kit, ability by ability, set against today’s version.

Caitlyn in League Classic at a glance

Caitlyn in League Classic is the long-range Piltover sheriff with an older, simpler kit, and she arrived in the mode in Patch 26.20. The first thing a live-game player notices is that her traps and nets do not feed Headshot. In the legacy text, each ability does its own job, and the trap-net-headshot combo that defines her today is not part of the description.

She joins the rest of the League Classic champions, so you can compare her against other returning kits.

The Classic kit

Classic Caitlyn’s kit is built around raw range and standalone tools. Here is what each ability does, going by the Patch 26.20 entry that brought her back.

  • Passive – Headshot: after a set number of basic attacks, her next shot is a headshot that adds bonus damage. Attacking from inside brush builds those charges faster, which rewards you for poking from cover in lane.
  • Q – Piltover Peacemaker: a long shot that passes through everything in its path, losing damage on each target after the first. It is your waveclear and your poke through a line of minions.
  • W – Yordle Snap Trap: she drops a trap that roots and damages the first enemy champion to step on it. You can keep up to 2 traps on the map at once, so placement in choke points and brush entrances matters.
  • E – 90 Caliber Net: she launches a net that hits the first enemy in its path, damaging and slowing it while the recoil throws her backward. It is both a disengage and a way to chip someone who walks forward.
  • R – Ace in the Hole: after a channel, she fires one round at a single enemy champion for heavy damage. Any other enemy champion who steps into the path takes the bullet instead.

MID.GG analysis

This entry brings Caitlyn into League Classic with a kit where Headshot is a plain attack counter boosted by brush, and trap and net deal their own damage instead of setting up headshots. It shifts her from the live trap-into-headshot burst pattern toward steady poke, brush positioning and standalone crowd control. Q and R remain close to the live versions, so those parts of her play carry over directly.

How it differs from today’s Caitlyn

The biggest gap is in Headshot. Today’s Caitlyn also fires a headshot against any target she has trapped or netted, the damage scales with her critical strike chance, and her Headshot range doubles on those targets. The Classic text does none of that: Headshot is a simple attack counter with a brush bonus. The live description does not mention brush, so the Classic version puts that interaction front and center.

Yordle Snap Trap and 90 Caliber Net

Both crowd-control tools lose their link to Headshot in Classic but gain damage of their own. The legacy trap roots and damages, and the text spells out the cap of 2 traps. Today’s trap reveals and immobilizes for 1.5 seconds and grants an empowered Headshot, with no damage or trap count in its description. The Classic net damages and slows the first enemy it hits, while the live net is described only as a slow, with the knockback on Caitlyn kept in both.

In practice, the live pattern of trapping someone and immediately firing a long-range headshot does not exist here. Your trap and net are setup and peel, and your damage comes from attacks and Q.

Piltover Peacemaker and Ace in the Hole

Q and R are essentially the same in both versions. Both Peacemakers pierce and lose damage on later targets; the live text adds a 1-second rev-up before the shot, which the Classic text does not describe. Both Ace in the Hole versions are a channeled single-target shot that enemy champions can body-block, and the live text stresses its huge range.

If you want the live kit in depth, the Caitlyn guide covers today’s version, and Caitlyn stats and builds track her on Summoner’s Rift. None of that data applies to League Classic.

Key takeawayWhat changes for a live Caitlyn player

Your muscle memory around traps and nets will mislead you in Classic.

  1. Do not expect trapped or netted enemies to give you a free empowered Headshot.
  2. Treat brush as a resource, since attacking from it charges Headshot faster.
  3. Use Q and R the way you already do, because both work much like today.

Classic patch history

Classic Caitlyn has not been tuned since she arrived. Her only entry is the Patch 26.20 addition, and no balance change for her has followed, so the kit described above is the one you play. Check the patch notes for any future Classic adjustments.

Frequently asked questions

What is different about Caitlyn in League Classic?

Classic Caitlyn plays her older kit. The legacy text never ties her trap or net to Headshot, and both abilities deal damage on their own. Headshot charges faster when she attacks from brush, and the 2-trap cap is spelled out. Her Piltover Peacemaker and Ace in the Hole work much like today’s versions.

When did Caitlyn arrive in League Classic?

Caitlyn arrived in League Classic in Patch 26.20. That patch added her with a full legacy kit covering Headshot, Piltover Peacemaker, Yordle Snap Trap, 90 Caliber Net and Ace in the Hole. No Classic balance change for her has followed that entry, so the version she launched with is the one you play today.

Does Classic Caitlyn’s trap trigger Headshot?

No, not according to the legacy kit text. In League Classic, Yordle Snap Trap roots and damages the first enemy champion that steps on it, with up to 2 traps placed at once, but nothing links it to Headshot. Today’s Caitlyn gets an empowered Headshot with doubled range on trapped or netted targets.

Is there a Caitlyn Classic build?

No verified Caitlyn Classic build exists. League Classic has no statistics of any kind, so there are no win rates, pick rates, builds or runes to base a recommendation on. What is documented is the legacy kit and its patch entries, which explain how her abilities work rather than what to buy.
