Kennen in League Classic: Legacy Kit and Changes

Kennen joined League Classic in Patch 26.20 with an adjusted Electrical Surge passive. This page covers what the Classic notes change and how that compares with his live kit.

Kennen in League Classic at a glance

Kennen in League Classic arrived in Patch 26.20. The first difference a live-game player will notice is on W, Electrical Surge. Its passive damage no longer scales off a percentage of total attack damage. It now uses a flat value per rank plus 100% bonus AD.

That single adjustment is the only Classic entry on record for him. The rest of this page sticks to what the notes actually say. For the other legacy picks in the mode, see the full list of League Classic champions.

The Classic Kennen kit

The Classic notes for Kennen do not include a full legacy-kit listing. The clearest picture comes from the one ability they touch. He has been in the mode since Patch 26.20, the first Classic patch on record for him, and the notes describe his kit like this:

  • Passive, Mark of the Storm: not described in the Classic notes.
  • Q, Thundering Shuriken: not described in the Classic notes.
  • W, Electrical Surge: the passive’s damage was adjusted from 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% total AD to 25 / 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 + 100% bonus AD.
  • E, Lightning Rush: not described in the Classic notes.
  • R, Slicing Maelstrom: not described in the Classic notes.

The W change alters what feeds the damage, not just how much it deals. The old ratio counted total AD, so the attack damage Kennen gains from leveling up added to the proc on its own. The new formula drops that. Base AD no longer counts, a flat amount per rank replaces it, and every point of bonus AD from items now adds in full.

In practice, the proc gets a guaranteed floor from ranks alone. Its ceiling depends on how much bonus AD you carry. The kit card below shows the entry as written.

How it differs from today’s Kennen

Electrical Surge is the only ability with a documented Classic difference. For every other ability the Classic notes say nothing. Do not assume a change the notes do not show. Here is how each ability lines up against the live kit:

  • Mark of the Storm (passive): live Kennen stuns an enemy he hits 3 times with his abilities. No Classic entry describes a different version.
  • Thundering Shuriken (Q): live Kennen throws a fast shuriken toward a location that deals damage and applies a mark. No Classic difference is documented.
  • Electrical Surge (W): live Kennen’s passive deals extra damage and applies a mark every few attacks, and the active damages and re-marks targets that are already marked. Classic Kennen’s passive uses the flat-plus-100%-bonus-AD formula from Patch 26.20. The live description gives no numbers, so the comparison is about the shape of the formula, not a number-for-number gap.
  • Lightning Rush (E): live Kennen turns into lightning, passes through units and marks them, gaining Move Speed on entry and attack speed on exit. No Classic difference is documented.
  • Slicing Maelstrom (R): live Kennen calls a storm that strikes nearby enemy champions for magic damage. No Classic difference is documented.

If your live-game Kennen leans on auto attacks to proc Electrical Surge, W is the ability to relearn. Your mark application should feel familiar, but the damage on each proc follows a different formula. For the live fundamentals of stacking marks into a stun, the Kennen guide covers the current kit. The Kennen stats and builds page covers live-game data only, not the Classic mode.

Good to knowNo Classic data exists

League Classic has no statistics of any kind. No win rate, pick rate, tier, build or rune page exists for Classic Kennen, so treat any live-game numbers as live-only.

Classic patch history

Classic Kennen has one balance entry so far: the Patch 26.20 adjustment to Electrical Surge. It moved the passive’s damage onto a flat base plus bonus AD. The stated goal was to lift a Kennen who was underperforming, with his attack-damage builds getting the largest share of the help. Nothing else has changed since. You can track future Classic entries in the patch notes.

Adjusted
Riot’s reasoning

The change to Electrical Surge’s passive is meant to lift an underperforming Kennen, with most of the help aimed at his attack-damage builds.

MID.GG analysis

Swapping a total-AD percentage for a flat base plus 100% bonus AD means the proc no longer grows from level-up attack damage. It now scales directly with bonus AD from items. Each rank gives a guaranteed floor, and the full bonus-AD ratio rewards Kennen players who rely on auto attacks to trigger the passive.

Frequently asked questions

What is different about Kennen in League Classic?

The documented difference is on W, Electrical Surge. In Patch 26.20 its passive damage moved from a percentage of total attack damage to a flat value per rank plus 100% bonus AD. The Classic notes describe nothing about his passive, Q, E or R, so no other difference is on record for those abilities.

When did Kennen arrive in League Classic?

Kennen arrived in League Classic in Patch 26.20. His Classic notes from that patch are an adjustment to W, Electrical Surge, rather than a full listing of a legacy kit. That makes 26.20 the earliest Classic patch on record for him and the starting point of his Classic patch history.

Is there a Kennen Classic build or tier list?

No. League Classic has no statistics of any kind, so there are no win rates, pick rates, tiers, builds or runes for Kennen in the mode. The only hard information is the patch entry that changed how Electrical Surge’s passive scales. Any Classic Kennen build you see is guesswork, not data.

Was the Patch 26.20 change to Kennen’s W a buff or a nerf?

It is listed as an adjustment. Electrical Surge’s passive damage now uses a flat base per rank plus 100% bonus AD instead of a percentage of total AD. The stated aim was to help an underperforming Kennen, especially attack-damage builds, so the bonus-AD ratio is where the new formula gains the most.
