Janna in League Classic: Legacy Kit and Changes

Classic Janna brings back a global Tailwind that speeds up allies across the map. Here is how it compares with today’s kit and what Patch 26.22 changed.

At a glance

Janna in League Classic is the older take on the wind support. Her Tailwind passive is the first thing a live-game player notices. It gives a global bonus movement speed instead of speeding up allies who walk toward her. She joined the League Classic champions roster in Patch 26.22, the same patch that brought her first Classic balance change.

The Classic kit

The Classic patch notes describe one part of Janna’s legacy kit: her passive. There is no entry that introduces the full kit line by line. Janna has been in the mode since Patch 26.22, the first Classic patch on record for her, and the only ability those notes touch is Tailwind.

Tailwind (passive) grants a global bonus movement speed. It started at 3% and now sits at 2% after the 26.22 nerf. The note says the bonus reaches interactions in other lanes, so it works map-wide. Your top laner and jungler feel it while you stand in bot lane.

In practice, Classic Janna’s passive is always on and costs you nothing to deliver. You don’t need to walk ahead of a chase or stand at the front of a rotation to hand out the speed. Every ally moves a little faster on every rotation, gank, chase and retreat. A small bonus applied to the whole team for the whole game adds up, which is why Tailwind’s number is the lever the balance team pulled.

The Classic entries don’t describe her Q, W, E or R. Riot’s own lines for the kit are on the card below.

How Janna in League Classic differs from today’s Janna

The clear difference is Tailwind. On live, allies only gain movement speed while moving toward Janna. Live Tailwind also turns part of her bonus movement speed into bonus magic damage on her basic attacks and on Zephyr. The Classic entry lists only a flat global movement speed value and no damage component. It is a team-wide utility passive rather than a positional one.

That changes one habit you bring from the live game. A live Janna positions so allies run toward her, for example walking ahead of a retreating carry to speed them up. In Classic, the passive helps everyone regardless of where you stand. Your positioning is free to serve your shields and disengage.

For the rest of the kit, the Classic notes record no differences, so there is nothing confirmed to compare. Today’s versions work as follows, and the Janna guide covers how to play them on Summoner’s Rift:

  • Howling Gale (Q): a storm that grows the longer you hold it, then flies forward on recast, dealing damage and knocking up enemies in its path.
  • Zephyr (W): passively raises Janna’s movement speed and lets her pass through units; the active deals damage and slows a target.
  • Eye Of The Storm (E): shields an allied champion or turret and adds attack damage to the target.
  • Monsoon (R): throws nearby enemies back, then heals nearby allies while the channel lasts.

Treat any difference in those four abilities as unconfirmed until a Classic entry names it. The kit card is the place to check Riot’s exact wording for the mode.

Classic patch history

Classic Janna has one balance change so far. The Patch 26.22 nerf lowered Tailwind’s global movement speed from 3% to 2%. The note frames the cut as keeping the global passive in the game while stopping it from overwhelming other lanes. Every ability other than the passive is untouched in the Classic notes. Riot’s reasoning

Lowering Tailwind’s global movement speed keeps the map-wide passive in place while stopping it from dominating interactions in other lanes after a long stretch of very strong play.

MID.GG analysis

The cut lowers the bonus from 3% to 2% and leaves the passive’s global reach untouched, so Classic Janna still speeds up every ally on the map. The team-wide edge on rotations, chases and retreats is smaller, but her identity as a map-wide speed support stays the same.

Frequently asked questions

What is different about Janna in League Classic?

Classic Janna’s Tailwind passive grants a global bonus movement speed rather than the live version’s bonus to allies moving toward her. The live passive also turns part of her bonus Move Speed into bonus magic damage. The Classic notes only document the passive, so no other ability has a listed difference.

Is Janna’s old global movement speed passive back in League Classic?

Yes. League Classic Janna’s Tailwind is a global bonus movement speed passive, not the live bonus that only helps allies moving toward her. Patch 26.22 cut the value from 3% to 2%, but the global effect itself stayed, and the patch note says keeping it intact was the intent.

When did Janna arrive in League Classic?

Janna arrived in League Classic in Patch 26.22. The same patch also carries her first Classic balance change, a nerf that lowered Tailwind’s global bonus movement speed from 3% to 2%. No other Classic balance entries for her exist yet, so Patch 26.22 is her full history in the mode.

Is there a Classic Janna build or rune page?

No build data exists for League Classic. The mode has no statistics of any kind, so there are no win rates, pick rates, tiers, builds or runes to recommend for Classic Janna. For live-game builds, use the regular Janna stats page; for the mode itself, rely on the kit and its patch notes.
