Swain in League Classic: Legacy Kit and Changes

Swain in League Classic brings back the raven kit: Decrepify, a delayed Nevermove root, Torment and a mana-hungry Ravenous Flock form. Here is how it compares with the live demon kit.

At a glance

Swain in League Classic is the old raven tactician: a mage who tethers, roots and amplifies damage, then turns into a giant raven that heals off its flock. The first thing a live-game player notices is the missing demon. There are no Death’s Hand bolts, no pull on Nevermove, and the ultimate burns mana instead of draining health.

Patch 26.22 brought this Swain into the mode. The rest of the roster sits on our League Classic champions page.

Good to knowNo stats for the mode

League Classic has no statistics of any kind, so there are no win rates, tiers or builds for Classic Swain. For the live champion, use Swain stats and builds.

The Classic kit: Swain’s League Classic abilities

Classic Swain is a damage-over-time mage. Every basic ability either sticks to a target or lands after a delay, so the kit rewards staying near a fight rather than poking from long range.

  • Passive – Carrion Renewal: kills restore part of Swain’s mana. It is a resource refund, not a combat stat, so it matters most while clearing waves or cleaning up fights.
  • Q – Decrepify: Swain sends his raven at one enemy. The bird slows and damages them over time, but only while they stay within range, so the target can break it by walking away.
  • W – Nevermove: a short wind-up, then damage and a root on every enemy in a small area. In this version it is ground-targeted area control, not a projectile.
  • E – Torment: a damage-over-time curse that also makes the victim take more damage from Swain. The amplification even applies to true damage such as Ignite, which most damage amps leave alone.
  • R – Ravenous Flock: Swain becomes a giant raven. The form costs more and more mana the longer it stays up, while lesser ravens hit nearby enemies and fly back to heal him based on the damage they dealt.

Read together, the kit is a stacking loop. Torment raises everything Swain does afterward, Decrepify keeps the target slowed, Nevermove locks them in place, and the flock converts that damage into health. Your real limit is mana, which is why the passive refunds it.

Swain

New
Passive - Carrion Renewal
Swain recoups some mana every time he kills an enemy.
Q - Decrepify
Swain sics his raven on a target enemy, slowing and dealing damage over time while they remain in range.
W - Nevermove
After a brief delay, Swain damages and roots all enemies in a small area.
E - Torment
Swain afflicts an enemy with Torment, dealing damage over time and causing them to take increased damage from him. Unlike most other damage amps, this also impacts true damage, like Ignite.
R - Ravenous Flock
Swain transforms into a giant raven, consuming increasing amounts of mana while transformed. In this state, he releases lesser ravens to damage enemies and return to heal Swain based on the damage they dealt.
MID.GG analysis

This entry adds Swain to League Classic with his full raven kit: Carrion Renewal, Decrepify, a delayed Nevermove root, Torment and the mana-draining Ravenous Flock form. It makes him a target-locked damage-over-time mage whose staying power in fights depends on his mana pool rather than on draining champions. Nothing about the kit has been adjusted since.

How it differs from today’s Swain

No ability is the same in both versions. Two names survive, Ravenous Flock and Nevermove, but both moved to different slots and do different jobs. If you learned Swain from the live game or our Swain guide, expect to relearn every button.

Passive: mana refund vs. Soul Fragments

Classic Carrion Renewal gives mana back on kills. The live passive, now called Ravenous Flock, has ravens collect Soul Fragments that heal Swain and permanently raise his maximum health. One is a sustain-your-casting tool; the other is a scaling engine that rewards fighting champions all game.

Q: Decrepify vs. Death’s Hand

Decrepify is a targeted raven tether that slows and ticks damage while the enemy stays close. Death’s Hand fires several piercing bolts, and an enemy hit by more of them takes more damage. Classic Q is reliable sticky damage on one target; live Q is a short-range burst you aim to stack.

W: Nevermove vs. Vision of Empire

Classic W is Nevermove, a delayed root in a small area. Live W is Vision of Empire, a demon eye that damages, slows and reveals champions while granting a Soul Fragment. The Classic version trades the live kit’s scouting for a hard root on a basic ability.

E: Torment vs. Nevermove

Torment, the damage amp that even boosts true damage, has no counterpart in the live kit. Live E is Nevermove reworked into a wave that travels out, returns, roots what it hits and lets Swain pull rooted champions closer. Classic Swain loses the pull but gains a curse that makes his whole combo hit harder.

R: raven form vs. Demonic Ascension

Both ultimates are sustain transformations, but the fuel differs. Classic Ravenous Flock drains mana at a growing rate and heals through returning ravens. Demonic Ascension drains health from nearby enemies, adds the Demonflare nova, and lasts indefinitely as long as Swain keeps draining champions.

Key takeawayWhat changes for a live Swain player

The Classic version plays around targets and mana, not skillshots and Soul Fragments.

  1. Your root is the delayed area W, and there is no pull.
  2. Torment on E amplifies your damage, including Ignite.
  3. The raven form ends when mana runs dry, not when enemies leave range.

Classic patch history

Classic Swain has not been tuned since he arrived. The only entry for him is the Patch 26.22 one that added the legacy kit, so nothing has changed yet; future Classic adjustments will appear in our patch notes.

Frequently asked questions

What is different about Swain in League Classic?

Classic Swain uses his old raven kit instead of today’s demon kit. His passive refunds mana on kills, Q is the Decrepify raven tether, W is a delayed area root, E is the Torment damage amp, and his ultimate turns him into a giant raven that drains mana and heals through lesser ravens.

Is Torment back on Swain in League Classic?

Yes. Torment is Classic Swain’s E. It deals damage over time and makes the target take more damage from Swain, including true damage such as Ignite, which most damage amplification ignores. Today’s Swain has no equivalent; his live E is Nevermove, a returning wave that roots and can pull champions.

When did Swain arrive in League Classic?

Swain arrived in League Classic in Patch 26.22, which added his legacy kit to the mode. That patch entry is the only Classic entry for him so far, so the version you play is exactly the one introduced then, with no balance changes since.

Is there a Swain build for League Classic?

No verified build exists. League Classic has no statistics of any kind, so there are no win rates, pick rates, tiers or recommended builds for Classic Swain. What the kit does show is that mana is his limit: the ultimate drains it over time and the passive refunds it on kills.
