LoL Patch 26.20 Notes: Yunara Nerf, Mordekaiser Buff

Yunara, Ashe and K’Sante take nerfs aimed at pro play, while Mordekaiser, Smolder and Vayne get the buffs that matter. Ranged Experimental Hexplate users lose most of their edge.

Patch 26.20 is a pre-Worlds balance pass aimed at what pro play leans on most. Yunara, Ashe, K’Sante, Ambessa and Cassiopeia are nerfed. Mordekaiser, Smolder, Vayne, Lucian and a group of underperformers are buffed. Swain and Hextech Rocketbelt get mixed changes.

The item changes matter just as much in solo queue. Ranged champions now get 50% of Experimental Hexplate’s stats instead of 70%, Rocketbelt trades ability haste for a harder-hitting active, and Runaan’s Hurricane is nerfed. Our pre-patch data shows which buffs land on champions that were already strong and which only prop up weak ones. Earlier balance passes are in our LoL patch notes archive.

TL;DR

  • Yunara is nerfed: less on-hit damage on Q, and her W slow no longer stacks with other slows. It is the headline change ahead of Worlds.
  • Experimental Hexplate is nerfed for ranged users, whose share of its stats drops from 70% to 50%. Ranged top laners lose their favorite rush.
  • Hextech Rocketbelt is adjusted: half the ability haste, a stronger active. Kennen and Neeko get small buffs to compensate.
  • Mordekaiser gets the strongest buff for top lane: a shorter R cooldown at ranks 1 and 2 and more Q scaling from level 10.
  • Bot lane gets help for Smolder, Vayne and Lucian, while Ashe loses attack damage per level.
  • Replays are now private: you can only download replays of games you played in.

Biggest winners

Mordekaiser gains the most, because both changes hit the parts of his kit that decide fights. The bot lane buffs go to champions our data had well under the 50.1% average: Lucian sat at 46.82% and Vayne at 47.82% before the patch, so those buffs bring them back toward playable rather than making them dominant.

  • Mordekaiser (top): R drops from 140s to 120s at rank 1 and from 120s to 110s at rank 2, and Q scales harder from level 10. He gets his duel back more often on a champion that was already above average.
  • Smolder (bot): stronger passive bonus damage for crit builds and a far bigger R self heal, up to 250 base at rank 3, push full crit closer to his bruiser build.
  • Vayne (bot): Q costs a flat 30 mana at every rank and her base health regen rises, which fixes her worst early problem of running dry while taking poke.
  • Tahm Kench (support): Q base healing doubles at rank 5, from 25 to 50, compensating for support item changes that hurt low-regen tanks.

Biggest losers

Yunara takes the headline nerf because of her reach, not her win rate. She had the highest pick rate of any patched champion at 13.48%, with a win rate only slightly above average, so the change targets the passive scaling meta pros were drifting toward.

  • Yunara (bot): Q on-hit damage loses 2 at every rank and W’s slow no longer stacks with other slows, which weakens her early trades and the slow-stacking peel built around her.
  • Experimental Hexplate (item): ranged users drop from 35% to 25% attack speed and from 14% to 10% move speed. Melee champions are untouched.
  • K’Sante (top): W costs more mana, and its damage reduction falls from 30% to 25% base and from 75% to 70% when fully charged.
  • Ashe (bot): attack damage per level falls from 3.5 to 3, a late-game damage cut that leaves her slows and utility alone.
Watch outAvoid K'Sante in solo queue

K’Sante was already at 46.24% before this patch, 3.9 points under average. The nerf is tuned for coordinated play, but it still costs him mana and durability in lane, so he gets even harder to justify in Ranked Solo/Duo.

Champion changes

Every stat line is on the cards below. The changes split into pro-play nerfs, compensation for the Rocketbelt and support item changes, and buffs for champions sitting under the average.

Diana

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 49.9%
  • Pick rate 7.3%
Riot’s reasoning

Diana’s bruiser builds lag well behind her assassin build, so her W shield scales harder with bonus health.

W - Pale CascadeWPale Cascade

Shield Bonus Health Ratio
11%changed to 14%
MID.GG analysis

The ratio only counts bonus health, so full AP assassin Diana gains nothing. Bruiser jungle Diana gets a sturdier shield for clears and extended fights, which makes health items a more sensible part of her build. It is a modest buff, best felt in long skirmishes rather than one-shot combos.

Kennen

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 49.4%
  • Pick rate 2.3%
Riot’s reasoning

Kennen’s E gets more attack speed to strengthen his signature spell and to offset the Rocketbelt changes he loses out on.

E - Lightning RushELightning Rush

Bonus Attack Speed
40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80%changed to 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90%
MID.GG analysis

This is compensation rather than a real power gain: the extra attack speed during E roughly covers what he loses from Rocketbelt’s ability haste cut. Top lane Kennen trades a little better after using E, and Rocketbelt’s stronger active suits his all-in style. Expect him to stay where he was.

Kindred

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 47.8%
  • Pick rate 2.5%
Riot’s reasoning

Kindred is weak, so the buffs target areas that do not make early invades stronger and could give the champion a distinct place in the meta.

W - Wolf's FrenzyWWolf’s Frenzy

Monster modifier
150%changed to 165%

E - Mounting DreadEMounting Dread

Slow Duration
1schanged to 1.5s
Small Monster Targeting
Enabledchanged to Removed
MID.GG analysis

More W damage to monsters and a longer E slow help clears and ganks, but E can no longer target small monsters, which changes how you finish camps. The buff favors skirmishes and objective fights over early aggression. Kindred sat among the weaker junglers before the patch, so this brings the champion closer to average rather than into the top tier.

Lillia

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 51.8%
  • Pick rate 4.9%
Riot’s reasoning

Last patch’s Lillia buff did not move her enough, so her ultimate gets a longer sleep at higher ranks.

R - Lilting LullabyRLilting Lullaby

Duration
2.5schanged to 2.5 / 2.75 / 3s
MID.GG analysis

A longer sleep at ranks 2 and 3 makes her mid and late game teamfights more decisive, especially in low elo where teams group poorly. She was already one of the stronger junglers before the patch, so this buff stacks on real strength. She is a top jungle pick this patch.

Lucian

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 46.8%
  • Pick rate 5.3%
Riot’s reasoning

Last patch’s change to balance mid and bot Lucian landed as a bot lane nerf, so his attack damage growth is raised to compensate.

Base Stats

Attack Damage
60 + 2.5/Levelchanged to 60 + 2.9/Level
MID.GG analysis

More attack damage per level helps both roles, but the goal is to restore bot lane Lucian. He was among the weakest marksmen before the patch, so this is a recovery, not a reason to first-pick him. Pair him with an aggressive support to make the extra damage count in early all-ins.

Before the patch
  • Win rate 50.8%
  • Pick rate 8.0%
Riot’s reasoning

Mordekaiser’s long gaps between ultimates and a Q that loses impact as games speed up leave him behind faster opponents, so both are improved.

Q - ObliterateQObliterate

Scaling Level 10-20
(+5/lvl)changed to (+7/lvl)

R - Realm of DeathRRealm of Death

Cooldown
140 / 120 / 100schanged to 120 / 110 / 100s
MID.GG analysis

A shorter R cooldown at ranks 1 and 2 means more duels in the mid game, and stronger Q scaling from level 10 keeps him relevant late. He was already above average before the patch, so this is the strongest top lane buff in Patch 26.20. Expect him to climb in solo queue, especially in low elo.

Neeko

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 48.5%
  • Pick rate 2.5%
Riot’s reasoning

The Rocketbelt adjustment is likely a small loss for Neeko, so her E receives minor compensation.

E - Tangle-BarbsETangle-Barbs

Base Damage
70 / 105 / 140 / 175 / 210 (+65% AP)changed to 80 / 115 / 150 / 185 / 220 (+65% AP)
Empowered Root Duration
1.8 / 2.1 / 2.4 / 2.7 / 3schanged to 2 / 2.25 / 2.5 / 2.75 / 3s
MID.GG analysis

More E damage at every rank and a longer root at early ranks make her lane trades and picks slightly better. The gain mostly offsets the ability haste she loses from Rocketbelt. She improves a little in mid lane but stays a niche pick.

Smolder

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 49.5%
  • Pick rate 5.2%
Riot’s reasoning

Smolder has lost power to the ranged Cleaver nerf and bot lane meta shifts, so his crit build is pushed closer to his bruiser build.

Passive - Dragon PracticePassiveDragon Practice

Self Heal
100 / 135 / 170 (+50% bonus AD) (+75% AP)changed to 100 / 175 / 250 (+75% bonus AD) (+75% AP)
MID.GG analysis

Higher passive bonus damage with crit and a far larger R self heal give full crit Smolder a clear identity again. Bot laners who stack early should favor the crit path this patch. It is a meaningful buff on a champion slightly under average, so expect him to move back toward a reliable pick.

Before the patch
  • Win rate 49.3%
  • Pick rate 6.5%
Riot’s reasoning

Tahm Kench has low health regen and health-scaling abilities, so he lost out on the recent support item changes and receives compensation.

Q - Tongue LashQTongue Lash

Base Healing
10 / 13.75 / 17.5 / 21.25 / 25changed to 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 / 50
MID.GG analysis

Doubling Q base healing at rank 5 lets him trade more freely in the mid game and recover between skirmishes. It restores power to support Tahm Kench rather than adding new strength. He becomes a solid tank support again for players who already know his matchups.

Vayne

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 47.8%
  • Pick rate 5.4%
Riot’s reasoning

Vayne sits in a weak spot, so her base stats help her absorb bot lane harass and her Q mana cost reverts to a flat value that felt much better.

Base Stats

Health per 5
4 + 0.5/Levelchanged to 5.5 +0.4/Level

Q - TumbleQTumble

Mana Cost
46 / 42 / 38 / 34 / 30changed to 30
MID.GG analysis

A flat 30 mana Q and higher base regen fix her biggest early problem in bot lane: running out of resources while taking poke. She was one of the weakest marksmen before the patch, so this is a recovery. Bot Vayne gains more than top Vayne, which matches the goal of the change.

Ambessa

Nerfed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 48.2%
  • Pick rate 3.1%
Riot’s reasoning

Ambessa’s late-game damage is too dependable in skilled hands across every bracket, most of all in pro play, so her passive hits for less.

Passive - Drakehound's StepPassiveDrakehound’s Step

Damage
5–30 (+25% bonus AD)changed to 5–25 (+20% bonus AD)
MID.GG analysis

The cut lands on her passive’s maximum and its bonus AD ratio, so early trades barely change while long late-game fights lose damage. It matters most in pro play and high elo, where Ambessa players chain passive procs reliably. Below Diamond the change is close to cosmetic, and she stays a fine pick for players who already main her.

Ashe

Nerfed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 49.2%
  • Pick rate 10.7%
Riot’s reasoning

Ashe offers the most utility of any marksman but still deals too much raw damage in pro play, so her damage growth is trimmed.

Base Stats

Attack Damage per Level
3.5changed to 3
MID.GG analysis

Losing attack damage per level is a late-game damage cut that leaves her slows and R untouched. Pro teams will still draft her for utility and engage, so expect her presence to dip rather than vanish. In solo queue she remains a safe lane; she simply kills a little slower in late fights.

Before the patch
  • Win rate 48.6%
  • Pick rate 1.9%
Riot’s reasoning

Cassiopeia still dominates early lanes after her earlier nerfs, so her starting health and mana are reduced again to make her work harder for a lead.

Base Stats

Base Health
630changed to 610
Base Mana
480changed to 450
MID.GG analysis

Lower base health and mana make her first few levels costlier, so she has to choose trades more carefully before her first back. Her previous nerf hit pros harder than regular players, and this one follows the same pattern. Mid players who face her in lane get a slightly bigger window to punish her early.

K'Sante

Nerfed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 46.2%
  • Pick rate 1.7%
Riot’s reasoning

K’Sante is too reliable as a blind pick in coordinated play, so his early mana and W damage reduction are cut, with the effect skewed toward elite players.

W - Path MakerWPath Maker

W Base/All-Out Damage Reduction
30 / 75%changed to 25 / 70%
MID.GG analysis

Higher W mana costs make early trades harder to sustain, and lower damage reduction weakens his signature charge in fights. The nerf is aimed at pro play, but it also lands on a champion who was already well under average in solo queue. Below Master, pick another top laner.

Yunara

Nerfed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 50.4%
  • Pick rate 13.5%
Riot’s reasoning

Yunara risks becoming the dominant passive hyperscaling pick heading into Worlds, so her on-hit damage and slow stacking are cut.

W - Arc of JudgementWArc of Judgement

Slow Stacking

MID.GG analysis

Lower Q on-hit damage weakens her early trades, and her W slow no longer stacking with other slows hurts the peel compositions built around her. The nerf targets pro play more than solo queue, where she was popular rather than dominant. She stays playable, but stronger lane bullies now have an easier time against her.

Swain

Adjusted
Before the patch

Swain mid gets a moderate buff, paired with a base stat shift meant to even out his mid and bot lane performance.

MID.GG analysis

His W hits harder and comes back sooner, which mostly helps mid lane wave control and poke. More magic resist and less armor suit mid matchups and slightly hurt him into AD bot lanes. These are mixed changes that point players toward mid Swain.

Jungle: Lillia, Kindred and Diana

Lillia is buffed for the second patch in a row: her R sleep lasts 2.75s at rank 2 and 3s at rank 3. She was already 1.7 points above average, so this makes her one of the safest jungle picks in solo queue, especially in low elo where one long sleep decides a fight.

Kindred’s buff is aimed at fights, not invades. W deals more damage to monsters and E slows for 1.5s instead of 1s, but E can no longer target small monsters, so you clear camps differently. Diana’s W shield now scales harder with bonus health, which only helps bruiser Diana; the full AP assassin build is unchanged.

Mid lane: Swain, Cassiopeia and Neeko

Swain gets mixed changes. His W hits harder at higher ranks, up to 250 at rank 5, and its cooldown drops by 2s at every rank, while his base magic resist rises and his base armor falls. Mid Swain gains the most; bot Swain loses a little armor into AD lanes.

Cassiopeia is nerfed again, with base health down from 630 to 610 and base mana from 480 to 450, so her first few levels cost more. Neeko is buffed: E deals 10 more base damage at every rank and roots longer at the early ranks, which offsets her weaker Rocketbelt.

Top and bot: Ambessa, Kennen and Lucian

Ambessa’s passive is nerfed at the top end, from 30 to 25 maximum damage with a lower bonus AD ratio. Early trades barely change, but long late-game fights lose damage, which matters most in pro play. Kennen’s E gains 10% bonus attack speed at every rank to make up for Rocketbelt, and Lucian’s attack damage growth rises from 2.5 to 2.9 per level to repay bot lane for last patch’s change.

Item changes

Two items are nerfed and one is adjusted. Experimental Hexplate is the change that shifts builds; Rocketbelt changes who should buy it.

Experimental Hexplate

Experimental Hexplate

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

Ranged champions, especially top laners rushing it, get too much durability and all-in damage from the item, so their share of its stats is reduced.

Ranged modifier
70% of Value (35% Attack Speed, 14% Move Speed)changed to 50% of Value (25% Attack Speed, 10% Move Speed)
MID.GG analysis

Ranged users now get half the item’s value instead of 70%, a large cut to its attack speed and move speed. Ranged top laners lose their favorite rush and should rethink first-item choices. Melee champions keep the full item, so their builds do not change.

Hextech Rocketbelt

Hextech Rocketbelt

Adjusted
Riot’s reasoning

Rocketbelt is used too often as an escape rather than a risky engage, so its general stats shrink and its active hits harder, favoring AP bruisers who all-in with it.

Ability Haste
20changed to 10
Active Damage
100 (+10% AP)changed to 135 (+15% AP)
MID.GG analysis

Halving the ability haste makes it a poor stat item, while the stronger active rewards champions who dash into fights. AP bruisers gain; mages who bought it for safety lose. Kennen and Neeko receive champion buffs to cover their losses.

Runaan’s Hurricane

Runaan’s Hurricane

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

Runaan’s Hurricane was slightly overtuned after its last buff, so its bolt damage is trimmed.

Attack Damage per Bolt
65%changed to 60%
MID.GG analysis

Bolts now deal 60% of your attack damage instead of 65%, a small cut to multi-target damage in teamfights. Marksmen who build it lose a little wave clear and splash, but the item stays viable. Players will barely notice it in lane.

Experimental Hexplate is nerfed only for ranged champions, whose share of its stats falls from 70% to 50%. The item had made ranged top laners too hard to burst and too lethal in all-ins, so expect them to drop it as a first buy. Melee builds are unaffected.

Hextech Rocketbelt is adjusted. It loses half its ability haste, from 20 to 10, while its active rises from 100 (+10% AP) to 135 (+15% AP). Buy it when you plan to dash in and fight, as AP bruisers do, not as a haste item or an escape button. Runaan’s Hurricane is nerfed slightly, with each bolt dealing 60% of your attack damage instead of 65%.

  1. Rushing Experimental Hexplate on a ranged top laner

    Why it happens
It was the default rush for several patches and builds carry over from habit.
    The fix
Treat it as a situational buy on ranged champions and check the updated build before you lock in.
  2. Buying Hextech Rocketbelt for the ability haste

    Why it happens
It used to be a comfortable stat item on many AP champions.
    The fix
Buy it only when your champion wants to dash into fights, where the bigger active pays off.
  3. Saving the Rocketbelt dash to escape

    Why it happens
Defensive use feels safe, especially in low elo.
    The fix
Open fights with it so the active’s extra damage lands on a target.

System changes

The scoreboard cleanup is a quality-of-life change with no balance impact. Combat counters on items such as Death’s Dance, Kraken Slayer and Liandry’s Torment are now hidden on the scoreboard, while strategic counters like Tear of the Goddess items and Mejai’s Soulstealer stay visible.

System

Scoreboard Cleanup

Adjusted
Riot’s reasoning

Recent buff-bar clarity work moved combat numbers onto item icons and cluttered the scoreboard, so most of those counters are now hidden.

Note
The following items' icon counters are now hidden on the scoreboard:
  • Death's Dance
  • Haunting Guise
  • Liandry's Torment
  • Riftmaker
  • Kraken Slayer
  • Terminus
  • Guinsoo's Rageblade
  • Fiendhunter Bolts
  • Echoes of Helia
  • Dead Man's Plate
  • Spear of Shojin
  • Overlord's Bloodmail
  • Hullbreaker
  • Jak'sho the Protean
  • Force of Nature
MID.GG analysis

This is a cosmetic change with no balance impact. Combat counters on items such as Death’s Dance and Kraken Slayer disappear from the scoreboard, while strategic ones like Tear of the Goddess items and Mejai’s Soulstealer remain. Reading enemy stacks for decisions is unaffected.

Private replays start in patch 26.20

From patch 26.20 you can only download replays of matches you played in, and third-party apps and sites lose replay downloads entirely. The change closes security holes that cheat developers had exploited around game data. Your own VOD review is unaffected: you can still download and watch your replays in the client.

If you study high-elo players, you now need the VODs they publish themselves rather than downloaded replays. Separately, the Ranked 5s queue window has been extended from 4pm-2am to 4pm-4am server time.

ARAM changes

On the Howling Abyss, Bel’Veth loses all three of her ARAM bonuses, with damage dealt and damage taken back to 100% and her bonus tenacity removed. Locke’s damage dealt rises from 105% to 115%, a sizeable boost for him in ARAM. ARAM: Mayhem has its own changes on the ARAM: Mayhem Patch 26.20 page.

What to play this patch

Favor buffs that land on champions who were already at or above average, and skip the compensation buffs that only restore lost power. Builds and matchups for each pick are on our champion pages.

  • Mordekaiser (top): shorter R cooldown at ranks 1 and 2 and harder-scaling Q on a champion that was already above average.
  • Lillia (jungle): a longer R sleep at higher ranks on one of the strongest junglers before the patch.
  • Diana (jungle): the bruiser build finally gets a reason to stack health through a bigger W shield.
  • Swain (mid): his adjusted W hits harder on a shorter cooldown, and mid lane is where those changes pay off most.
  • Smolder (bot): full crit now gets more passive damage and a much bigger R heal, giving him a clear build path again.
  • Vayne (bot): the flat 30 mana Q and higher base regen let her survive poke lanes she used to lose.
  • Tahm Kench (support): doubled Q healing at rank 5 makes his trades in lane far more sustainable.
TipLow elo vs. high elo

In low elo, Lillia and Mordekaiser are the simplest gains: both win by landing one key ability in a messy fight. In high elo, watch Yunara and Ashe drafts drop off as teams adapt, which opens space for Smolder and Vayne. Fundamentals for each role are in our guides.

Frequently asked questions

When does LoL patch 26.20 come out?

The League of Legends Patch 26.20 notes were published on 6 October 2026. The patch’s new skins, including the HEARTSTEEL Live My Life line and Prestige Classic Baron Kog’Maw, become available on 7 October 2026. The patch nerfs Yunara, Ashe and K’Sante and buffs Mordekaiser, Smolder and Vayne.

Is Yunara still good after patch 26.20?

Yunara remains playable after Patch 26.20, but she is weaker. Her Q on-hit damage drops by 2 at every rank and her W slow no longer stacks with other slows. The nerf targets her role as a passive hyperscaler in pro play, so solo queue players will feel it mostly in early trades.

What changed for Experimental Hexplate in patch 26.20?

Experimental Hexplate is nerfed for ranged champions only. They now receive 50% of the item’s value instead of 70%, which means 25% attack speed instead of 35% and 10% move speed instead of 14%. Melee champions keep the full item, so it stops being an automatic rush for ranged top laners.

Can I still download replays after patch 26.20?

Yes, but only replays of matches you played in. Starting with Patch 26.20, other players cannot download your replays and third-party apps and sites lose replay downloads. You can still review your own games by downloading and watching your replays directly in the League client, so personal VOD review is unaffected.

What are the best champions to play in patch 26.20?

Mordekaiser in top lane and Lillia in the jungle are the safest gains, since both were buffed while already above average. Swain mid benefits from his stronger W, Smolder and Vayne get real bot lane buffs, and Tahm Kench support doubles his Q healing at rank 5.
