LoL Patch 26.22 Notes: Thresh Nerfs, Smolder Buffs

Thresh, Yasuo and Locke take nerfs while Smolder, Corki and Viktor get buffs, and Mel gets a midscope adjustment with a brand-new W. Here is what each change means for ranked.

TL;DR

Patch 26.22 nerfs Thresh, Yasuo, Locke and Doran’s Bow, buffs a set of scaling picks led by Smolder, Corki and Viktor, and gives Mel a midscope adjustment that trades early power for late-game cooldowns. The download is larger than usual because TFT moves to its own standalone client on 4 November 2026. League and TFT stay one click apart, and a later patch will let you opt out of TFT files entirely. Our LoL patch notes cover each new patch as it lands.

  • Thresh is nerfed again: lower base attack damage and less damage on The Box, aimed at his grip on top-tier support play.
  • Yasuo is nerfed with a smaller AD ratio on Q, the same treatment Yone received last patch.
  • Locke is nerfed in the early game through lower Q stack damage and a shorter W.
  • Smolder, Corki, Viktor, Kayle, Naafiri, Maokai and Shen are buffed, while Aurelion Sol, Rumble and Zaahen are adjusted.
  • Mel is adjusted: less early power, a new W that destroys enemy projectiles, and shorter cooldowns late.
  • Doran’s Bow is nerfed and Overlord’s Bloodmail is buffed with more flat attack damage.

Biggest winners

Smolder, Corki and Viktor gain the most from Patch 26.22, and Overlord’s Bloodmail is the item that moves furthest. The table below shows pre-patch win and pick rates against a 50.1% average, the baseline for judging how far each change has to carry a champion.

MID.GG ranked data from the previous patch, before these changes.

Smolder

Smolder is the clearest winner because his W buff is flat damage at every rank, so it helps both his crit and caster builds. W is his main poke and wave tool in lane, which means the extra damage shows up from his first trades, not only after items. He was already 0.9 points above average before the patch, and the Doran’s Bow nerf weakens the bow-start marksmen he trades into early.

Corki

Corki’s R hits harder at every rank, on both standard missiles and the Big One, and both bonus AD ratios rise. He was tuned cautiously for Worlds and sat 2.6 points under average before this patch, so expect a climb from a low base rather than an instant top pick. The buff rewards players who already land missiles reliably, because R is the spell he casts most.

Viktor

Viktor gets back some of what last patch’s changes took, but in scaling: more health per level and a higher AP ratio on R’s initial hit. His early lane bullying stays toned down, so the buff rewards farming to items and saving R for a teamfight rather than forcing early trades. Treat him as a safer late-game control mage this patch, not a lane winner.

Overlord’s Bloodmail

Overlord’s Bloodmail goes from 30 to 40 attack damage, while its Retribution passive caps slightly lower, from 12% to 10% total AD at low health. Most juggernauts open fights near full health, so the flat AD is a straight gain for them. Sett loses a little at low health, where his W makes Retribution strongest, but the extra flat AD should leave him close to even.

Biggest losers

Thresh and Yasuo take the most meaningful nerfs because both are popular picks, while Locke and Doran’s Bow lose early-game power.

Thresh

Thresh loses base attack damage and R damage at every rank, another nerf on top of his previous one. Lower base AD trims the auto-attacks he weaves into lane trades, and The Box punishes a diving bot laner less. The target is top-tier play, where he has led support picks. Across our sample he sat at 50.9% with an 11.2% pick rate, so most solo queue Thresh players will feel a trim, not a collapse.

Yasuo

Yasuo’s Q drops from 105% to 100% total AD, matching the nerf Yone took last patch. The cut is small per cast, but Steel Tempest is the spell he uses constantly for trading and clearing waves, so it compounds across a game, especially in the crit builds that drove his rise. At a 16.8% pick rate he is the most-played champion on this patch’s list, and his 51.6% win rate left room for a cut.

Locke

Locke’s early game is the target: Q’s per-stack bonus damage drops at every rank and W lasts 5s instead of 6s. The nerf is driven by mastery, since players who know him deeply show he is still too strong early. That matters for everyone else, because he sat 2.3 points below average before the nerf in our data. If you are still learning him, bank your ranked games on something else this patch.

Doran’s Bow

Doran’s Bow drops from 8 to 7 attack damage. That is a small number on a starting item, but it narrows the gap to Doran’s Blade, the intended start for marksmen who want early trading power and sustain. Expect bot laners to mix their starts again instead of defaulting to the bow every game.

Champion changes

Patch 26.22 spreads its changes across every role, with Mel’s adjustment the largest by far. Each card shows every stat line and the champion’s pre-patch win and pick rate.

Corki

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 47.5%
  • Pick rate 1.6%
Riot’s reasoning

Corki was held back ahead of Worlds and now has room to be stronger for every player.

R - Missile BarrageRMissile Barrage

Note
Big One Damage: 180 / 340 / 500 (+170% bonus AD) ⇒ 200 / 380 / 560 (+180% bonus AD)
MID.GG analysis

A genuine buff to Corki’s main damage tool: every missile and the Big One hit harder, with better bonus AD ratios. It favors mid lane players who keep R on cooldown during lane and sieges. He starts from a low base, so expect a gradual climb rather than a jump into the top tier.

Kayle

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 51.4%
  • Pick rate 3.5%
Riot’s reasoning

Kayle has faded since the top lane role-quest shake-up, and top lane needs more scaling options, so her early laning gets a small boost.

Q - Radiant BlastQRadiant Blast

Cooldown
12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8schanged to 10 / 9.5 / 9 / 8.5 / 8s

R - Divine JudgmentRDivine Judgment

Cooldown
160 / 120 / 80schanged to 140 / 110 / 80s
MID.GG analysis

Shorter Q and R cooldowns at low ranks make Kayle’s laning phase less passive: you can poke more often and use R to save yourself or a ganking jungler earlier. Her late-game ceiling is unchanged, so this is a quality-of-life buff for top laners who already play her. It matters most in low elo, where games run long enough for her to scale.

Maokai

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 50.7%
  • Pick rate 2.8%
Riot’s reasoning

Maokai has been stuck almost entirely in support, so the buff targets his top and jungle play.

Q - Bramble SmashQBramble Smash

Damage
75 / 120 / 165 / 210 / 255 (+2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4% Target Maximum Health) (+50% AP)changed to 75 / 120 / 165 / 210 / 255 (+2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4 / 4.5% Target Maximum Health) (+50% AP)
MID.GG analysis

More max-health damage on Q scales best against tanky targets and jungle monsters, which is why it points toward top and jungle rather than support. Jungle Maokai gets a healthier clear and more damage on ganks. Support Maokai gains a little too, but the role shift is the real story.

Naafiri

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 48.9%
  • Pick rate 3.7%
Riot’s reasoning

Naafiri has dropped out of mid lane after earlier nerfs and is mediocre in jungle, so the buff mainly targets mid to even out her roles.

Q - Darkin DaggersQDarkin Daggers

Heal
45 / 60 / 75 / 90 / 105 (+40% bonus AD)changed to 55 / 70 / 85 / 100 / 115 (+45% bonus AD)

W - The Call of the PackWThe Call of the Pack

Bonus Attack Damage
20%changed to 22%
MID.GG analysis

More Q healing and slightly more pack AD favor extended mid lane trades and all-ins after level 6. It is a modest buff, so it brings her back into consideration rather than making her a priority pick. Jungle Naafiri gains far less.

Shen

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 50.7%
  • Pick rate 5.4%
Riot’s reasoning

Shen jungle has fallen too far out of the meta and earlier jungle-tank changes did not bring him back, so he gets a direct buff.

Q - Twilight AssaultQTwilight Assault

Monster Damage Modifier
100 / 125 / 150 / 175 / 200changed to 120 / 140 / 160 / 180 / 200
MID.GG analysis

Q now deals more damage to monsters at early ranks, which fixes Shen jungle’s slow first clears without touching his top lane matchups. Faster clears mean earlier ganks and earlier global plays with his R. Top lane Shen is effectively unchanged.

Smolder

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 51.0%
  • Pick rate 5.5%
Riot’s reasoning

Smolder’s earlier buffs landed softer than expected while his crit and caster builds stayed balanced, so he gets a general damage buff, helped further by the Doran’s Bow nerf.

W - ACHOOO!WACHOOO!

Explosion Damage
10 / 35 / 60 / 85 / 110 (+50% bonus AD) (+80% AP)changed to 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 (+50% bonus AD) (+80% AP)
MID.GG analysis

Flat W damage at every rank helps both the crit and caster builds and makes his lane poke and wave clear stronger from the first trades. The Doran’s Bow nerf weakens many of the marksmen he faces, compounding the gain. Expect him to rise in bot lane across every elo bracket.

Viktor

Buffed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 49.1%
  • Pick rate 6.0%
Riot’s reasoning

Viktor’s last nerf hit harder than expected, but the drop in early bullying was welcome, so the power returns in scaling.

R - Arcane StormRArcane Storm

Conjure Damage

MID.GG analysis

More health growth and a higher AP ratio on R’s initial hit make Viktor sturdier and deadlier in late teamfights, while his early lane pressure stays reduced. Mid laners should farm to their item spikes and save R for a fight rather than forcing trades. It is a real buff to his late game, not his lane.

Locke

Nerfed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 47.8%
  • Pick rate 7.6%
Riot’s reasoning

Locke is within reason overall, but players who have mastered him show he is still too strong, especially early.

W - Soul IgnitionWSoul Ignition

Duration
6schanged to 5s
MID.GG analysis

The nerf hits his early game through lower Q stack damage and a shorter W window. Because it targets mastery-level play, average players lose power they were not fully using in the first place, which makes him a poor pick for anyone still learning him. One-tricks will adapt by trading less greedily before their first items.

Thresh

Nerfed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 50.9%
  • Pick rate 11.2%
Riot’s reasoning

Thresh stayed at the top of the support picks for top-tier players after his previous nerf, so he takes another.

R - The BoxRThe Box

Damage
250 / 400 / 550 (+100% AP)changed to 200 / 350 / 500 (+100% AP)
MID.GG analysis

Lower base AD and less damage on The Box cut his lane trading and teamfight damage without touching his playmaking tools. High-elo and pro players lose the most, since they were extracting the extra damage reliably. In lower elo he stays a viable pick, just a less punishing one.

Yasuo

Nerfed
Before the patch
  • Win rate 51.6%
  • Pick rate 16.8%
Riot’s reasoning

Yasuo kept rising in win rate and ban rate as players moved to crit builds, so he gets the same nerf Yone received.

Q - Steel TempestQSteel Tempest

Damage
20 / 45 / 70 / 95 / 120 (+105% total AD)changed to 20 / 45 / 70 / 95 / 120 (+100% total AD)
MID.GG analysis

A small cut to Q’s total AD ratio that grows with every item, so crit builds feel it most. Because Q is cast constantly, the loss adds up across lane trades and teamfights. Dedicated Yasuo players in mid and top will keep him, but his edge narrows.

Aurelion Sol

Adjusted
Before the patch
  • Win rate 51.3%
  • Pick rate 3.0%
Riot’s reasoning

Aurelion Sol players already prefer maxing E second even though it is the weaker choice, so E’s damage rises to make that order correct.

E - SingularityESingularity

Total Magic Damage
50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+60% AP) over 5schanged to 50 / 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 (+60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80% AP) over 5s
MID.GG analysis

This is an adjustment that mainly affects mid lane skill order: maxing E second now pays off in damage instead of costing you power. Singularity’s higher ratio at later ranks rewards zoning in teamfights and around objectives. Expect more E-second builds in solo queue, while W-second players lose nothing.

Mel

Adjusted
Before the patch
  • Win rate 46.1%
  • Pick rate 6.1%
Riot’s reasoning

Mel’s power moves from the early game into scaling, her W becomes an area nova that destroys missiles and retaliates instead of reflecting, and her later Q and R cooldowns drop so she can stack her passive higher.

MID.GG analysis

A true midscope adjustment: weaker lane burst, stronger late-game cooldowns and a completely different W. The new nova protects the whole team from projectiles and strips enemy shields, so she gains value into poke compositions and shield supports. Expect a rough learning curve in solo queue before her numbers settle, so judge her after a week of games.

Rumble

Adjusted
Before the patch
  • Win rate 45.9%
  • Pick rate 1.4%
Riot’s reasoning

Rumble was tuned around pro play, so this change aims to help the average Rumble player more than pros.

Damage per Second
120 / 200 / 280 (+35% AP)changed to (+40% AP)
Note

MID.GG analysis

This adjustment raises the AP ratios on Rumble’s R, rewarding players who build AP and land The Equalizer through a full teamfight. Solo queue Rumble, where fights are messier and ults sit longer in the zone, benefits more than coordinated pro play. It is a meaningful push for top and mid Rumble without changing how he lanes.

Zaahen

Adjusted
Before the patch
  • Win rate 49.7%
  • Pick rate 3.1%
Riot’s reasoning

Zaahen delivers on his scaling but has too little to do in lane, so the change makes his early skirmishing more satisfying.

Q - The Darkin GlaiveQThe Darkin Glaive

Cooldown
10 / 9 / 8 / 7 / 6s
Note
8 / 7.5 / 7 / 6.5 / 6s
MID.GG analysis

This adjustment shortens Q’s cooldown at early ranks while leaving the max rank alone, so his lane trading and early skirmishes get more frequent without changing his late game. Top laners can contest waves and short trades more often before his scaling arrives. It is a feel change more than a large power shift.

Mel’s midscope adjustment

Mel’s adjustment moves power out of lane and into the late game. She starts with less health and AD, her passive’s early bonus per bolt drops, and Q’s first hit becomes a flat amount with a lower ratio, so early burst falls. In return, Q’s follow-up hits scale harder, Q refunds part of its cooldown when it hits a champion, and R’s cooldown falls sharply at its later ranks.

W is the real change. Instead of reflecting, it now releases a nova that destroys enemy projectiles and shields, grants move speed to Mel and nearby allies, and retaliates against the champions whose missiles it destroyed. That makes her a stronger answer to poke and projectile-heavy carries. E’s root now lasts longer the farther it travels, so aim it at range rather than point blank.

Mel and Rumble enter the patch as the two weakest patched champions in our data, 4 and 4.2 points under the average. Mel’s changes target scaling rather than her laning, so judge her after a week of games, not on the first day.

Aurelion Sol, Rumble and Zaahen

These three are adjusted with power added in specific places. Aurelion Sol’s E deals more damage at higher ranks and its AP ratio grows with rank, which makes maxing E second a real option instead of the fun-but-weaker choice. Rumble’s R gains AP ratio on both its damage over time and its maximum, aimed at average players more than pros. Zaahen’s Q cooldown is shorter at its early ranks, giving him more to do in lane skirmishes before his scaling arrives.

Top, jungle and mid buffs

Kayle’s Q and R cooldowns drop at low ranks, which shortens the weakest part of her game without raising her late-game ceiling. Maokai’s Q deals more max-health damage at every rank, pointed at top and jungle rather than his usual support role. Shen’s Q deals more damage to monsters at its early ranks, so his first clears are faster.

Naafiri gets more Q healing and a little more bonus AD from her W, aimed squarely at mid lane, where she had nearly vanished. The buff favors extended trades: more sustain per Q means you can take a second exchange instead of backing.

Item changes

Both item changes shift build choices more than raw power levels.

Doran’s Bow

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

Doran’s Bow is slightly but clearly too strong, pulling marksmen who should start Doran’s Blade onto it almost exclusively.

Attack Damage
8changed to 7
MID.GG analysis

One less attack damage on a starting item is small, but it reopens Doran’s Blade as the start for marksmen who want early trading. Bot laners who started the bow by default should test both again. Smolder gains indirectly as bow-start opponents lose early damage.

Overlord’s Bloodmail

Buffed
Riot’s reasoning

Overlord’s Bloodmail should be a premier juggernaut capstone but only carries Sett, so the change is a net buff for other users without inflating Sett, who gets the most from Retribution through his W.

Attack Damage
30changed to 40
Note
Retribution: +0 - 12% total AD, based on % Missing Health ⇒ +0 - 10% total AD, based on % Missing Health
MID.GG analysis

More flat attack damage with a slightly lower Retribution cap moves the item’s value up front, which favors juggernauts that open fights at full health. Top laners and juggernaut junglers can now justify it as a core item instead of a greedy pickup. Sett stays close to even, since the flat AD offsets his smaller low-health bonus.

For marksmen, the Doran’s Bow nerf is a cue to test Doran’s Blade again, especially in lanes where you expect early all-ins. For juggernauts, Overlord’s Bloodmail now delivers more of its value up front, so it is easier to justify as a core item rather than a greedy pickup. Sett players can keep their build; compare your damage in Practice Tool before deciding it got worse.

What to play this patch

Lean on the buffed scaling champions and avoid mastery-dependent nerf targets until the patch settles. Each pick names its role; builds and matchups are on our champion pages and in our guides.

  • Kayle (top): shorter early Q and R cooldowns shrink her weak laning window, and top lane rewards scaling picks this patch.
  • Sett (top): Overlord’s Bloodmail gains flat AD, and he still gets the most from its Retribution passive through his W.
  • Shen (jungle): Q deals more damage to monsters early, which speeds up the clears that held his jungle back.
  • Maokai (jungle): the Q max-health damage buff targets his jungle and top play, and his ganks stay simple to execute.
  • Viktor (mid): more health per level and a stronger R make him a safer late-game control mage.
  • Naafiri (mid): extra Q healing and pack AD give her mid lane all-ins more staying power.
  • Corki (mid): R hits harder at every rank, so pick him up if you already play him well.
  • Smolder (bot): a W damage buff at every rank plus a weaker Doran’s Bow for the marksmen he faces.
  • Leona (support): untouched and 2.1 points above average before the patch, she is the cleanest engage option as Thresh loses damage.
Key takeawayThree rules for Patch 26.22

Adjust your champion pool before your first ranked game.

  1. Bot laners should test Doran’s Blade starts again now that Doran’s Bow lost attack damage.
  2. Supports who relied on Thresh can move to Leona or Maokai without giving up engage.
  3. Mel, Viktor and Kayle reward patience, so farm to their power spikes instead of forcing early trades.

Frequently asked questions

What are the biggest changes in Patch 26.22?

Patch 26.22 nerfs Thresh, Yasuo, Locke and Doran’s Bow, and buffs Smolder, Corki, Viktor, Kayle, Naafiri, Maokai, Shen and Overlord’s Bloodmail. Mel gets a midscope adjustment that moves her power from the early game into scaling and replaces her W with a nova that destroys enemy projectiles. Aurelion Sol, Rumble and Zaahen are also adjusted.

Is Thresh still good after the Patch 26.22 nerf?

Yes, Thresh remains playable, but he is weaker. Patch 26.22 nerfs his base attack damage and the damage on his R, The Box, at every rank, while his other abilities are untouched. The nerf targets top-tier play, where he led support picks. Solo queue players lose some trading damage rather than his playmaking.

What changed for Mel in Patch 26.22?

Mel received a midscope adjustment. She loses early health, attack damage and Q burst, but gains mana growth, harder-scaling Q follow-up hits, a Q cooldown refund on champion hits and shorter R cooldowns late. Her W now releases a nova that destroys enemy projectiles and shields and retaliates against the destroyed missiles instead of reflecting them.

Why is the Patch 26.22 download so large?

Patch 26.22 is larger than usual because Teamfight Tactics moves to its own standalone client on 4 November 2026. The extra size prepares for a future patch that lets League players opt out of TFT downloads entirely. Switching between League and TFT stays a single click, and existing TFT cosmetics remain usable in League.

Should you build Overlord’s Bloodmail after Patch 26.22?

Yes, on juggernauts it is a stronger option. Patch 26.22 buffs Overlord’s Bloodmail from 30 to 40 attack damage while lowering the cap on its Retribution passive from 12% to 10% total AD at low health. The flat AD is a net gain for most users, and Sett, who leans hardest on Retribution, should stay close to even.
