TFT Patch 18.5 Notes: Azir Nerfs and Taric Buffs

Azir’s super-tank comp takes three separate hits while Taric, Soraka and Ashe climb. Here is every 18.5 change, what our data says and what to force.

Teamfight Tactics Patch 18.5 breaks up the Azir and Rammus super-tank boards, trims the late-game verticals that win on their own, and hands real power to Taric, Soraka and Ashe. Econ augments also lose upfront gold, so you have fewer free tempo boosts and more reason to commit to a board early.

TL;DR

  • Azir comps nerfed from three angles: Azir’s ability damage, Blackthorn (6) and its base AP sacrifice, and Flora Fatalis healing all come down.
  • Capstone verticals nerfed: Elderwood (9), Riftbeast (7) and the top Rapidfire breakpoints lose power.
  • Tanks and AP carries buffed: Taric, Soraka, Ashe, Brambleback, Morgana, Malphite, Sett and Caitlyn gain power; Alune, Sentinel, Sivir and Mama Beak are adjusted.
  • Econ augments and Radiants nerfed: Investment Strategy, Pandora’s Bench, Prismatic Destiny and Expected Unexpectedness give less gold; Radiant Adaptive Helm and Blue Buff are nerfed.
  • Wisps reworked for filtering: benched itemized units now count, Abandon Ship costs 2g, and Hand of Baron is adjusted to be cheaper but weaker.

Full changes in Teamfight Tactics Patch 18.5

Every trait, unit, Radiant item, augment and Wisp change is on the cards below, with our note on each. Our top-4 data compares each unit and trait breakpoint against a 53.8% average before the patch.

Traits

Trait

Blackthorn

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

Blackthorn sacrifices are now well optimized, so the 6-piece bonus and base AP sacrifice drop to weaken the super-charged Azir comp.

6 Piece Enhanced Bonus
60%changed to 50%
Base AP Sacrifice
12% Damage Amp + 2 Mana Regenchanged to 10% Damage Amp + 2 Mana Regen
MID.GG analysis

This nerf is aimed squarely at the Azir carry build; Blackthorn (6) sat 2.8 points above average on a 0.7% pick rate. It is small alone, but it stacks with Azir’s own nerf and the Flora Fatalis cut.

Trait

Elderwood

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

Elderwood (9) is close to an automatic win once you have the Emblems and 2-star units, so its summon health bonus comes down.

(9) 9-Piece Summon Bonus Health
140%changed to 125%
MID.GG analysis

Elderwood (9) posted 89.3% before the patch, so the trim will not stop it from winning games when you reach it. Elderwood (7) stays the realistic target in most lobbies.

Trait

Fae

Adjusted
Riot’s reasoning

Last patch’s Fae buff was too cautious, so the heal grows and the later Golden Pixie thresholds drop to smooth the econ curve.

(2/4) Heal
2.5/4%changed to 3/5%
(2/4) 4th Pixie Threshold
30000changed to 25,000
(2/4) 5th Pixie Threshold
70000changed to 60,000
(2/4) 6th Pixie Threshold
110000changed to 100,000
MID.GG analysis

Rakan and Lillia frontlines gain the most from the bigger heal. Fae (2) sat 6.7 points under average, so these mixed changes push it toward playable rather than top tier.

Trait

Flora Fatalis

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

Steady healing from the trait and Emblem kept super tanks from losing health, so the heal is trimmed as another small hit to Rammus and Azir boards.

Max Health Healing
8%changed to 7%
MID.GG analysis

Flora Fatalis (2) ran 4.1 points above average, and super-tank boards lose some staying power. The Consuming Flora buff partly offsets this for Emblem holders.

Trait

Rapidfire

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

Rapidfire spikes with a single Emblem, which makes the vertical slightly too strong.

Attack Speed Per Attack
3/5/8/12%changed to 3/5/7/10%
MID.GG analysis

The cut lands on the top two breakpoints, so small Rapidfire splashes are untouched. Rapidfire (5) at 62.6% was the hot spot and should cool off.

Trait

Riftbeast

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

Riftbeast now works from several angles and its 7-piece edges out other late-game plans, so its AD and AP bonus is trimmed.

(7) AD/AP
6%changed to 5%
MID.GG analysis

Riftbeast (7) sat 3.2 points over average, so this light nerf keeps it viable. Paired with the Omega Riftbeast nerf, forcing the vertical is slightly worse.

2-cost units

Unit

Caitlyn

Buffed
Riot’s reasoning

Caitlyn only fits a few narrow comps, so her empowered attack damage rises to make her a broader reroll Rageblade carry.

Empowered Auto Damage
190/285/470 ADchanged to 200/300/490 AD
MID.GG analysis

She started 22.8 points below average, so this small buff does not make her a priority. Reroll her only when your early copies and Rageblade line up.

3-cost units

Unit

Azir

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

With the traits around Azir already nerfed, his ability damage takes a flat cut as the main nerf to his comp.

Ability Damage
46/69/110 APchanged to 43/65/105 AP
MID.GG analysis

Azir was already 2.7 points under average overall, with his power concentrated in Blackthorn boards. Three separate nerfs make that comp a risky force.

Unit

Kha'Zix

Nerfed
Unisolated Damage
255/360/515 APchanged to 250/345/500 AP
Isolated Damage
285/410/605 APchanged to 280/390/590 AP
MID.GG analysis

Both isolated and unisolated damage drop slightly. At 4.2 points below average he was not a problem unit, so play him mainly for trait value.

Unit

Mama Beak

Adjusted
Riot’s reasoning

Mama Beak’s mana lock ran longer than intended because of a bug, so the fix comes with slightly lower damage for a small net gain.

Note
Mana lock now ends when the Tiny Beaks start to despawn rather than finish, reducing total Mana Lock time by ~1 second.
Ability Attack Damage
22/33/52 ADchanged to 20/30/50 AD
Master Yi: AD Form
Starting Attack Damage: 60changed to 63
Master Yi: AP Form
AP Ability Damage: 125/190/285 APchanged to 135/200/320 AP
Tristana: Mana Buff
0/60changed to 0/50
Tristana: Ability Damage per Attack
10/15/25 ADchanged to 12/18/28 AD
MID.GG analysis

A shorter mana lock means faster recasts, and her Master Yi and Tristana groups gain power. Boards built around the Tristana side benefit most.

4-cost units

Unit

Brambleback

Buffed
Alpha Mark Heal
4%changed to 5%
Armor Ignore
20% + 25% APchanged to 25% + 25% AP
MID.GG analysis

Brambleback was already 5.5 points above average and gains healing and armor ignore. Expect it to be a contested 4-cost this patch.

Unit

Malphite

Buffed
Riot’s reasoning

The Flora Fatalis nerf lowers Malphite’s ceiling, leaving room for a stronger shield.

Shield
700/850 APchanged to 735/885 AP
MID.GG analysis

This is a general buff for any board using him as frontline. At 5.9 points below average, he still needs a strong trait context to be worth chasing.

Unit

Morgana

Buffed
Riot’s reasoning

Morgana struggles to damage strong frontliners, so her initial and bonus curse damage rise on her three primary targets.

Initial Curse Damage
60/90 APchanged to 70/105 AP
Curse Bonus Damage
22/33 APchanged to 25/38 AP
MID.GG analysis

AP boards that hand her utility items get more frontline damage. She started 4.2 points under average, so treat her as a support carry, not a main one.

Unit

Sentinel

Adjusted
Riot’s reasoning

Sentinel appears on many boards without items, so its stun shrinks while its shield’s AP ratio grows to reward itemizing it.

Stun Duration
1schanged to 0.5s
Shield
350/450 APchanged to 375/475 AP
MID.GG analysis

With a 31.1% pick rate it is the most-played patched unit in our data. Unitemized Sentinel is weaker filler now, while AP-itemized versions get slightly better.

Unit

Sett

Buffed
Riot’s reasoning

Sett’s heal AP ratio rises slightly, and the gain grows for vertical Blossom boards that stack extra AP.

Heal AP Amount
225/275 APchanged to 250/300 AP
MID.GG analysis

Vertical Blossom players get the most from this buff. Elsewhere the change is minor.

Unit

Sivir

Adjusted
Ability Damage
200/300 ADchanged to 220/330 AD
Bounce Damage
20% of initialchanged to 18% of initial
MID.GG analysis

She gains main-target damage but loses bounce damage, shifting her value toward single targets. At 4.2 points below average, these mixed changes are not a revival.

Unit

Soraka

Buffed
Riot’s reasoning

Soraka’s ability damage rises so she can work as a primary carry in AP lines.

Initial Star Damage
225/335 APchanged to 235/355 AP
Additional Star Damage
100/150 APchanged to 110/165 AP
MID.GG analysis

Already 4 points above average, she is now a real AP carry target. Expect her to be contested in AP-heavy lobbies.

5-cost units

Unit

Alune

Adjusted
Riot’s reasoning

Alune is strong but items barely change her output, so her durability passive drops to make room for itemized carry power.

Moonshard Damage
55/83 APchanged to 58/88 AP
Attack Speed
0.8changed to 0.85
Attuned Durability
7%changed to 5%
MID.GG analysis

She led our patched units at 68.6%, 14.8 points above average. She is more fragile without items, but extra damage and attack speed reward giving her carry items.

Unit

Ashe

Buffed
Riot’s reasoning

Ashe was overnerfed last patch, so her damage over time rises to reward AD items and Blossom’s bonus AD.

DoT Damage
9/14 ADchanged to 11/16 AD
MID.GG analysis

Already 6.3 points above average, she improves as an AD carry in vertical Blossom. Plan AD items for her rather than utility.

Unit

Taric

Buffed
Riot’s reasoning

Taric lacks a 5-cost tank identity, so he gains resists and a much bigger AP ratio on his and his partner’s empowered attacks to make him worth itemizing.

Resists
65changed to 70
Ability empowered two attacks Damage
100/150 APchanged to 130/200 AP
MID.GG analysis

Taric sat 9.2 points above average and gets stronger still. Slam AP tank items on him and expect a fight for copies in stages 4 and 5.

Radiant items

Item

Adaptive Helm

Nerfed
Mana Regen
7changed to 6
Non Tank/Fighter AD/AP
40changed to 35
MID.GG analysis

Mana regen and the damage bonus for holders that are not tanks or fighters both drop. The Radiant version is less of an automatic pick on casters.

Item

Blue Buff

Nerfed
Base AD/AP
30%changed to 25%
MID.GG analysis

Radiant Blue Buff loses base AD and AP. Casters still want it for mana, but its damage edge narrows.

Augments

Augment

Malicious Monetization

Buffed
Initial Gold Granted
4changed to 6
MID.GG analysis

More upfront gold makes it a stronger econ option, especially for players aiming to level early.

Augment

Nesting Anvils

BuffedPrismatic
Gold Granted
4changed to 6
MID.GG analysis

This Prismatic augment gains upfront gold. Players who want items without falling behind on econ benefit most.

Augment

Patience is a Virtue

Buffed
Initial Rerolls
4changed to 5
MID.GG analysis

An extra starting reroll helps players who sit on gold and roll later.

Augment

Seraphim’s Staff

Buffed
AP Threshold
90%changed to 110%
MID.GG analysis

This buff favors AP caster boards that lean on the staff’s bonus.

Augment

Expected Unexpectedness

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

4-costs and scaling 5-costs are strong this set, so the augment’s gold and 5-cost grants come down to match other options.

Stage 3 Gold Granted
18changed to 15
Stage 4 Gold Granted
20changed to 18
Stage 4 5 Costs Granted
3 ⇒ 2
Stage 4 5 Costs Granted
5 Cost roll reward now additionally grants 3 gold.
MID.GG analysis

Less gold at stages 3 and 4 and one fewer 5-cost makes it weaker. It still suits fast 8 players who can field the 5-costs it grants.

Augment

Flowing Tears

Nerfed
Mana Threshold for Cashout
6500changed to 7000
MID.GG analysis

A higher mana threshold delays the cashout. Mana-hungry caster boards feel the slower payoff most.

Augment

Investment Strategy I

Nerfed
Initial Gold
6changed to 3
MID.GG analysis

Its initial gold is halved, so it no longer helps your early tempo. Take it only for the long-term econ.

Augment

Investment Strategy II

Nerfed
Initial Gold
10changed to 6
MID.GG analysis

Less initial gold makes it a slower econ pick. Players planning a late roll-down lose the least.

Augment

Omega Riftbeast

NerfedGold
Bonus HP
10%changed to 8%
Bonus Attack Speed
10%changed to 8%
MID.GG analysis

Bonus HP and attack speed both drop, stacking with the Riftbeast (7) nerf. Riftbeast forcers feel this most.

Augment

Pandora’s Bench

Nerfed
Gold Granted
4changed to 1
MID.GG analysis

Upfront gold falls sharply. Take it for the bench effect, not the gold.

Augment

Prismatic Destiny

Nerfed
Gold Granted
4changed to 2
MID.GG analysis

Its upfront gold is halved. Pick it for its main effect rather than tempo.

Augment

Promised Protection

Nerfed

MID.GG analysis

Less HP granted means a smaller safety net for players losing early.

Augment

It is disabled again because of a bug, so you will not see it this patch.

Augment

MID.GG analysis

Tailoring from Patch 18.3 now applies correctly, so it should show up for the comps it is meant for.

Wisps

Good to knowWisp rule

Wisp Filtering: Wisps that filter by number of itemized champions now also include Benched champions. and Wisps that filter by specific roles now snapshot the last combat rather than the current board..

Wisp

Abandon Ship

Nerfed
Riot’s reasoning

At no cost, Abandon Ship was too easy to force, so it now costs gold.

Cost
0gchanged to 2g
MID.GG analysis

At 2g, taking it is now a real gold decision instead of a free pivot.

Wisp

Beggar’s Wisp

Nerfed
Gold
3/5gchanged to 2/3g
MID.GG analysis

It grants less gold, so it is a weaker econ choice for players saving toward a level.

Wisp

MID.GG analysis

A cost bug is fixed and it now costs 4g as intended.

Wisp

Hand of Baron

Riot’s reasoning

Hand of Baron was too powerful, so its stats shrink while its cost comes down.

Comps that lose power

The Blackthorn Azir comp is the clear target. Azir takes a flat damage cut, Blackthorn (6) and the base AP sacrifice shrink, and Flora Fatalis heals less, which also weakens Rammus boards. Each change is small, but stacked together they make Azir a riskier force when another player is already on him.

Elderwood (9) was almost a guaranteed win, at 89.3% and 35.5 points over average, so a cut to summon health will not stop it from closing games when you hit it. Riftbeast (7) loses a sliver of AD and AP and Omega Riftbeast gets weaker too, so forcing that vertical from stage 2 gets slightly worse.

Units and items worth contesting

Taric already sat 9.2 points above average and now gets more resists plus a much bigger AP ratio on his empowered attacks. Alune is adjusted: she loses durability but gains damage and attack speed, so she shifts from a unit you can leave bare to one that wants carry items. Sentinel, the most-played patched unit at a 31.1% pick rate, loses half its stun, so stop slotting it unitemized as filler.

Mama Beak is adjusted: a bug fix shortens her mana lock, her own damage drops, and her Master Yi and Tristana groups gain power, with Tristana’s mana falling from 0/60 to 0/50. Radiant Adaptive Helm and Blue Buff both lose some damage, so they are less of an automatic pick on casters.

Augments and Wisps

Augment offers are now tailored, so you see fewer AP augments on AD boards and vice versa. Most gold-upfront augments are nerfed, while Malicious Monetization, Nesting Anvils and Patience is a Virtue are buffed. Consuming Flora also gets stronger, with bonus effectiveness rising from 50% to 70%, which softens the Flora Fatalis nerf for Emblem holders.

Wisp filtering is the bigger quality-of-life shift. Wisps that count itemized champions now include your bench, and role-based Wisps read your last combat rather than your current board, so last-second unit swaps no longer game them. Compare these against last patch’s changes if you are tracking how the Fae buff evolved.

What to play

  • Taric (5-cost tank): already 9.2 points above average and now tankier with a far better AP ratio, so slam AP tank items on him in stage 4.
  • Soraka (4-cost AP carry): her star damage rises, and she was already 4 points over average, which makes her a legitimate primary carry in AP lines.
  • Ashe (5-cost AD carry): her damage over time goes up, so give her AD items instead of utility, especially in vertical Blossom.
  • Brambleback (4-cost): more healing and armor ignore on a unit that sat 5.5 points above average; expect lobbies to contest it.
  • Alune (5-cost carry): adjusted to reward items, so hand her your carry components once you hit level 8 rather than leaving her bare.
TipRead the lobby before forcing

Azir boards will still appear from players who have not adjusted. If two players are on Blackthorn, pivot to a Taric or Soraka line early instead of splitting copies.

Frequently asked questions

What are the biggest changes in TFT Patch 18.5?

Patch 18.5 nerfs the Azir super-tank comp through Azir, Blackthorn and Flora Fatalis, trims Elderwood (9), Riftbeast (7) and Rapidfire, and buffs Taric, Soraka, Ashe and Brambleback. Econ augments lose upfront gold, Radiant Adaptive Helm and Blue Buff are nerfed, and Wisp filtering now counts benched itemized champions.

Is Azir still good in TFT Patch 18.5?

Azir is weaker in Patch 18.5. He takes a flat ability damage nerf, and his best comp also loses power through smaller Blackthorn (6) bonuses, a reduced base AP sacrifice and less Flora Fatalis healing. He remains playable, but forcing him into a contested lobby is now a poor bet.

What comps should I play in TFT Patch 18.5?

Prioritize boards built around buffed units. Taric is an itemized AP tank, Soraka works as a primary AP carry, and Ashe wants AD items in vertical Blossom. Brambleback was already strong before its buff, and Alune now rewards carry items, so pick the line your early items and augments support.

What changed with Wisps in TFT Patch 18.5?

Wisps that check itemized champions now count your bench, and role-based Wisps look at your last combat instead of your current board, so swapping units before a Wisp no longer helps. Abandon Ship now costs 2 gold, Hand of Baron is cheaper but weaker, and Heroic Sacrifice and Beggar’s Wisp are nerfed.

How long does Choncc or Treat last in TFT?

Choncc or Treat runs from Patch 18.5 until 17 November 2026. It is a Halloween take on Choncc’s Treasure with new encounters, including one where every player starts with a unique Avatar Lux. Play it during that window, because the event leaves the game once it ends.
